Samantha has been training in dance since the age of eight at local dance studios in Abbotsford. Her time at Danceworx took her to dance on a Disneyland Stage, and perform in the parade that travels down Main Street!
After graduating high school, she was drawn to the Dance Major Program at Simon Fraser University, where she studies contemporary dance technique, as well as academic topics surrounding dance, including aesthetics, dance history, and movement. Through this program, she has refined herself as a contemporary dance artist. At SFU, Samantha has performed in their repertoire shows and has worked with many choreographers including Lesley Telford, Heather Myers, Sarah Chase, Ziyian Kwan, and KT Niehoff. and will be in their latest show in the fall. She has also assisted New York based dance photographer Brendan Fernandes in a photography workshop "The Writing Dance" where she helped an audience of non-dancers create phrases to describe movement, and from those phrases new movement was born. Samantha also trains with Lee Kwidzinski in modernLee, studying ballet and modern techniques. Samantha spent the summer training with Desirée Dunbar in Catalyst Dance, and is excited to pursue her dance artistry. Samantha also choreographed a contemporary jazz piece that was a part of the BC Summer Games Opening Ceremonies held in Abbotsford in July.
She currently teaches Saturday ballet classes to our youngest DX dancers, and is excited to help them discover dance! Samantha also assists in running the office at Danceworx, and while you won’t see her much during the school year, she is hard at work entering dancers in competitions, planning schedules, and much more!
